William Stephen Miller

William Stephen Miller, 94, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026. William (Bill) resided in Norman, OK. Bill was born to Henry and Rena Miller on November 25, 1931, in Manchester, CT, the youngest of three. Bill had two sisters, Janice Marks and Carolyn Bradley. After a wonderful New England upbringing, he went on to college to study engineering. He moved to Virginia to begin his career where he met Patricia Rutherford in the church choir. They have three children, James Miller, Jean Rowe and Lawrence Miller. In 1971, Bill accepted an opportunity with Westinghouse Corporation to move the family to Norman, OK, where he had a long and successful career in manufacturing engineering until he retired. Bill spent a few years working part time in a hardware store and traveling, upon retiring. His hobbies included photography, music, archeology and ancestry research. He served in many areas in his church his whole adult life, especially singing in the church choir. After Patricia’s passing in 2001, he began volunteering as a docent at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History where he thrived, enjoying that time learning, teaching, leading tours and connecting with others. In 2002, Bill married longtime family friend, Jean Roots. She was widowed with two daughters and grandchildren. The Miller and Roots families were best friends for thirty-one years, making it a very happy union for everyone. Bill was widowed again in 2003. He continued his hobbies and stayed very closely connected to all his family. He delved more into his genealogy, spending hours updating charts and sharing information with his niece Susan Traver who shares this passion. He lived his life to the fullest sharing his optimism, gentle kindness and warm smile with all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his children, son-in-law Thomas Rowe, stepdaughters, Kathryn Lewis (and husband Jeff Lewis) and Christi Hefner (and husband Charles Hefner).

Survivors also include six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
