Vivian Lawson

January 8, 1933 — July 30, 2023

Vivian Marie (Gatewood) Lawson of Shawnee, Oklahoma, peacefully passed from this earthly home to her heavenly home, July 30, 2023, while surrounded by her beloved family.  Born January 8, 1933, in Brooksville, Oklahoma, Vivian was the beloved daughter of Jasper and Nevator (Cook) Gatewood.
Vivian would attend and graduate from Dunbar High School in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  After high school she met and married Carl Lawson in 1953.  Together they built a loving home.  Vivian was always considered a hard worker.  She loved being a housewife and raising and providing for her family.  She enjoyed sewing, listening to gospel bluegrass music, working in her yard, and especially picking pecans from her pecan tree.  On many occasions you would find her enjoying a day of shopping and adding to her collection of clothes and other collectable things.   In addition to always being there for her family Vivian worked as a caretaker at the Walcott Hotel.  She truly had a passion for caring for others.  Vivian always enjoyed her time together with her church family where she was a longtime member of Union Missionary Baptist Church.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lawson; son, Robert Lawson Sr.; parents, Jasper and Nevator Gatewood; siblings, Helen Brown, Cora Flowers, Rosie Gatewood, Nora Gatewood, Arvella Snyder and Charles Gatewood.
Those left to carry on her legacy include her children, Karen Lawson and Phil Gatewood; grandson, Robert Lawson Jr.; nieces, Helen Winrow, Rhonda Austin, Barbara Jefferson, Robbie Brannon and Kim Bruner; nephews, Leon Brown Jr., Mark Sanders, Marvin Sanders and Clarence Badgett; and a host of other family members and numerous friends.
Public visitation will be held 12:00PM to 7:00PM Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at AE Funeral Services located at 603 W. Independence St., Shawnee, Oklahoma.  A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at AE Funeral Services Chapel.
