Virginia Louise Fox, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished member of her Shawnee community, passed away on June 10, 2026, at the age of 83.
She was born in Dodge City, Kansas on November 8, 1942, to James and Retha Edmonds. She was the youngest of 3 siblings.
Virginia lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to the people around her. She was a caring and compassionate person who had a way of making others feel welcomed and valued. Her warmth, generosity, and loving spirit touched the lives of many.
Virginia met the love of her life, Larry Gene Fox, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, who she swore was the spitting image of James Dean. Indeed, Larry was a sharp dresser with slick-backed hair and a shiny, black convertible. He was the very epitome of cool and had no problem sweeping her off her feet! They were married on October 1, 1960, and went on to have two children before eventually opening one of many self-owned businesses. Fox's Cleaners and Laundromat became Virginia and Larry's crown jewel of self-achievement.
Virginia was deeply involved in the cleaners and laundromat business and could be found working diligently Monday through Friday. In 1997, however, she decided to try her hand at real estate and become a realtor. As a realtor, Virginia was known for her ability to connect with people. She truly cared about those she helped and enjoyed volunteering throughout her community. She built lasting relationships throughout her career and was admired for her kindness and dedication.
Virginia loved her family deeply and treasured the time she spent with them. She lived for the simple pleasures of life, including relaxing at home, traveling, spending time at Lake Eufaula on her houseboat, throwing parties, whether it be birthdays, holidays, or a simple Saturday OU football gathering. She enjoyed mowing and gardening in her yard, watching her favorite shows, creating flower arrangements, and sharing moments with the people she loved. The moments she loved the most were when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit her. She also had a sweet appreciation for life’s little joys—especially a good piece of chocolate. She was an amazing cook and loved to fill people's bellies, always determined to make sure everyone was fed and happy.
She will be remembered for her loving heart, her happy spirit, her independence and her sass, and the many ways she brought joy to those around her.
She is survived by her two children, daughter Gina Armstrong and her husband Carl, and son Jem Fox and his wife Michelle, her two grandchildren, Candace Sweatt and Ty Fox, step-grandchildren, Ashley, Josh, Jeffrey and Tony, her great-grandchildren, Tyson, Saylor, and Titus, , her sister-in-law Judy Carter and her husband Dana, her brother-in-law Glen Cook, her niece Glenda Luper, and many other family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Fox, her brother Fred Edmonds, her sister Lucy Cook, her mother and father Retha and James Edmonds, and her step grandchild Michael Armstrong.
Virginia’s memory will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2pm, located at the Shawnee Board of Realtors at 678 W. Kickapoo Spur Street, Suite D.
Wear blue in honor of Virginia's favorite color!
