Shirley Wisdom

Shirley Christine Wisdom, 88, went to her heavenly home on November 29, 2022. Shirley was born on May 4, 1934, in Missoula, Montana, to Francis G. Sexton and Christine (Glauth) Sexton.
In 1952, Shirley graduated from Powell County High School in Deer Lodge, Montana. She continued her education at Carroll College, Helena, Montana, and graduated from the Sisters of Charity School of Nursing, St. James Unit, Butte, Montana, in 1955. She worked as a registered nurse for St. Francis Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, she met Dr. C.K. Wisdom and they were married on August 31, 1957. They were stationed at Ford Island, Hawaii, where Dr. Wisdom was a physician at Ford Island Naval Air Station from 1957-1958.
Shirley and her husband moved several times during their marriage. From 1959 until 1966, they lived in McAlister, OK, where Dr. Wisdom was a General Practitioner. After leaving McAlister, they moved to Oklahoma City, OK, while Dr. Wisdom did his residency in Radiology. Finally, the couple moved to Shawnee, OK, in 1969, where Dr. Wisdom practiced Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
Shirley and her family lived on a farm, where they raised cattle and show horses. Horses were particularly special to her. At age 16, she showed Western Pleasure and was the rodeo queen in Montana. She rode the Hunter Jumpers in Montgomery, Alabama, and the American Saddle Breeds in Oklahoma City, OK. Later in Shawnee, she showed Arabians and participated in the sport and art of dressage riding.
She also enjoyed travelling to many different countries and throughout the United States and taking cruises with family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Parish Guild of St. Benedict Church, Alliance to the Pottawatomie County Medical Society, and Dressage Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Francis Sexton; sisters, Eileen Poe and Clara Sexton; son, Mark Wisdom; and grandson, Michael Cranfill Wisdom.
Surviving loved ones include: her husband, Dr. C.K. Wisdom; son, Michael Wisdom and wife, Judy, of Englewood, Florida; daughter, Mary Wisdom of Shawnee, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Kristine Maltos, Elizabeth Throckmorton and husband, Solomon, Kerry Dittmeier; and great-grandchildren: Brayden Covey, Maddox Throckmorton, Rayanna Cramer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2022, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Shawnee, OK. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Shawnee, OK.
