Roger Lee Estep

Roger Lee Estep, lovingly known as “Roger Doger,” was born on November 5, 1954, in Lynch, Kentucky. He passed away on April 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Roger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, enlisting on June 23, 1975, and retiring honorably on April 30, 1996. During his service, he worked as a police officer, carrying out his duties with integrity, strength, and a deep sense of responsibility. After his military career, Roger continued to serve as a civilian, working as an insurance fraud investigator and later as a Human Resources Specialist until his retirement on December 31, 2016. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University in 2000—an accomplishment that reflected his determination and commitment to growth.

At the center of Roger’s life was his beloved wife of 53 years, Bonnie Jean Estep. Together, they built a strong and loving family that was his greatest pride. He was a devoted father to Brandi Michelle Blue and Jennifer Lea Villanueva, and a deeply cherished “Papal” to his grandchildren: Leanne Demoy Blue, Nicole Riley-Lynn Blue, Isabel Madison Blue, Hunter Evans Blue, Charlise Nicole Villanueva, Joshua Victory Villanueva, Natalie Grace Villanueva, and Judah David Villanueva. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Poynter, Debbie Moran, and Elizabeth Hightower.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Millard Estep; his brother, Billy Estep; and his sisters Aleen Mings and Vickie Cerra.

Roger was a man of many admirable qualities—loving, giving, dependable, intelligent, and strong, yet incredibly tender. He had a natural way of making people feel cared for and valued. He was known for always asking if you needed anything and for making sure no one ever left his home hungry. A wonderful cook and devoted caretaker, he expressed his love through both his words and his actions.

He found joy in the simple things—golfing with friends, tending to his yard and garden, building with his hands, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was especially proud of his two hole-in-ones and enjoyed the humor of playing with his favorite “OP” golf balls—“other people’s.” He loved history, science fiction, and a good bologna sandwich. His quick wit and sense of humor brought laughter to those around him, and his famous “Irish goodbye,” affectionately known as “pulling a Roger,” will never be forgotten.

Roger’s impact reached far beyond his family. He was a respected leader, mentor, and friend. Many have said, “To know Roger is to love him,” a reflection of the lasting impression he left on everyone he met. His guidance, generosity, and ability to lift others up shaped countless lives and careers, leaving a legacy that will continue for years to come.

Above all, Roger was a man who loved deeply and lived honorably. His life was defined by service, compassion, and the relationships he built. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, a beloved Papal, and a loyal friend.

Roger’s presence will be deeply missed, but his love, lessons, and legacy will live on in all who knew him.
