Shawnee resident, Robert Chester Wright (Bob) passed away on January 6, 2023, after a short illness at the age of 92. Bob was born on October 24, 1930, in Springville, Iowa to Isaac and Mildred Wright.
He moved to Southern California in 1937. He graduated from Puente Union High School in 1949 where he met Dolores Smith, and they were married on December 30, 1950. They recently celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary. Bob served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean War (1952 - 1954) as a radioman and mechanic. Upon his honorable discharge, he started a career as a mechanic while also satisfying 6 years in the inactive reserves.
Bob’s hobbies included listening to ham radio, tinkering in the garage, and belonging to a CB club. He also enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and Dove hunting with his family. After retiring as a Diesel Mechanic in 1995, he and his wife moved to Shawnee where they enjoyed many years of retirement together.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Mildred Wright, and siblings Everette Eugene Wright, Mildred Florine Wiseman, and John Alfred Wright.
Bob is survived by his wife Dolores Wright, daughter Patti Odien and husband Roy, son Robert D. Wright and wife Margaret and daughter Kelly Gulbranson and husband Mike. He was blessed with six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A private Memorial Service for family and close friends will be held at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2023.
The family asked for those that plan to attend to please wear a mask to protect those that may be more vulnerable.
