Robert Nelson Meek Jr. passed away on November 21, 2024, on his 63rd birthday, surrounded by his family. He lived a whole life despite living his final years with end-stage renal disease.
Born on November 21, 1961, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was the beloved son of Robert Nelson Meek Sr., Helen Sue Brown Sanchez, and Sylvester Sanchez. Nelson is survived by his three brothers, Harold Meek, Seneca Blasdale, and Sean Perez, as well as his sisters, Melanie Perez Johnson, Lorrie, and Angie Meek. He was a proud and loving uncle to his nieces, Shoshanna Johnson and Stevi Johnson, and nephews, Ryan Meek, Terrence Meek, and Skylar Perez. In addition, he has many cousins, extended family, and friends and was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Homer.
A proud Sac and Fox Nation member of the Thunder Clan, Nelson was a Boarding School Survivor who went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Germany as part of the Armored Unit.
Nelson was well-known for his sense of humor. He often joked and laughed with his family. He worked as a skilled concrete truck driver for Block Concrete for several years. Over the years, Nelson became the family’s master of ceremonies for fireworks. His homeplace was the go-to destination for family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate, gather, and enjoy fireworks displays that he lovingly prepared. Special Thanks to the staff at the Veterans Affairs, Shawnee St. Anthony Hospital, and Fresenius Kidney Care of Shawnee for caring for Nelson over the years.
In Loving Memory of our Brother Robert Nelson Meek Jr. It saddens our family's hearts that we lost our beloved Nelson on his birthday, November 21, 2024. Nelson fought a brave battle with his illness, but his body could no longer fight. We invite family and friends to join us as we celebrate his life and the love, laughter, and humor he brought to us all.
