Robert Lee McGirt, age 82, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed from this life on April 24, 2025. He was born in Seminole, Oklahoma, on March 16, 1943, to Cecil McGirt and Lucille (Wolf) McGirt.
Robert was a man whose life was built on love, dedication, and quiet strength. He found joy in the simple things—whether it was spending long afternoons fishing, working on cars with steady hands, or sharing a laugh with those around him. He had a gift for humor, always ready with a joke or a witty comment, yet he carried a serious, dependable nature that made him a rock for his family and friends. He was proud of his Potawatomi Indian Heritage and was committed to his tribe.
A proud Army veteran, Robert dedicated his career to serving his country and later retired from Tinker Air Force Base, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and honor. His sense of duty and commitment shone through in every aspect of his life. He and one of his coworkers were given awards by the government when they designed two programs that saved the government millions of dollars. This was one of his proudest accomplishments.
Robert was married to his beloved wife, Donna, for over 40 wonderful years. Together, they built a family filled with love and resilience. He was the proud father of four children, and his legacy lives on through his children, several grandchildren and more than ten great-grandchildren, each one a testament to his enduring influence and care.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sister, his cherished son, and close childhood friends who shaped his early years. He is survived by Donna, his lifelong partner, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless others whose lives he touched with kindness and strength.
His memory lives on in every laugh shared, every story told, and every life made better by his presence. Robert’s journey reminds us all of the power of love, loyalty, and a well-timed joke.
