Michael Shan Hurst, 75, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on July 18, 2025. He was born in Checotah, Oklahoma, on April 5, 1950, to Lester Clyde Hurst and Barbara Ellen (Polk) Hurst.

Mike attended Tecumseh schools and graduated in 1968. While in school, he played the saxophone for four years in the high school band, and he also liked playing the piano. While growing up, Mike worked at the family’s Gulf service station and later the Texaco station on Rangeline Road. After graduation, Mike joined the U.S. Army Reserve and became a cook. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 19 years. Later, he opened a couple of video stores in downtown Shawnee. Mike always liked flea markets and had plenty of merchandise to sell while working full-time at the Grand Casino as a janitor for 18 years at his passing.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Clyde and Barbara Ellen Hurst; a sister, Colette Louise Hurst and an older brother, Guy Carney Hurst.

Mike is survived by one sister, Janie McKeehen of Sallisaw, and her family; one sister-in-law, Allouise Hurst, and her family; numerous cousins and many friends, along with his cat, Luke, of 15 years.

There will be a gathering for the family and friends on August 2, 2025, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Grace Community Church fellowship hall, 808 East Highland, Tecumseh, Oklahoma
