Martha Ann Stout

Martha Ann (Burton) Stout, 83 years of age, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on June 22, 2026, surrounded by family.

Martha was born on April 5th, 1943, to Hobart and Ann Burton in Mineral Wells, Texas. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1961. She married her lifelong partner Royce Gene Stout on August 4th, 1961. They settled in Shawnee, Oklahoma and began their family. Martha and Royce had four children, Adam Stout (Kelly), Kyle Stout, Ashley Sherrill (Brian), and Heidi Garlow (Jeremiah).

In 1983, Martha started her career at South Rock Creek. She began as a teacher's aide and later spent years as the school's encumbrance clerk. She enjoyed her coworkers and made lifelong friends at South Rock Creek. She retired from South Rock Creek in 2005.

She enjoyed aerobics, cooking for her family, and summer trips to Robber's Cave with her longtime, childhood friend Doris Mabry and her family. She also enjoyed Beanie Baby hunting with her partner in crime, Nancy Knight. She loved visiting her sister Rose Marie and her family as often as she could. She loved spending Thanksgivings and Christmas's with her brother David and his family. She enjoyed hiking, biking, and camping with Larry and Sandra Byrd, Dennis and Kathy Charvat, and Lawrence and Sharon Robinson. Martha cherished her friendships with Cindy, Nancy, Candy and Laurie. They really took care of her for many years, and the family is very grateful to them.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart and Ann Burton, her brothers, Harry Price, Johnny Price, and David Burton, her sister, Rose Marie and her husband James Banks, and her son, Kyle Gregory Stout. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Royce Stout, her son Adam Stout and wife Kelly, her daughter Ashley Sherrill and husband Brian, and her daughter Heidi Garlow and husband Jeremiah. She is also survived by many grandchildren: Rachel and Tanner Hinch, Alex Stout, Travis and August Sherrill, Joeci and John Gilchrest, Blaedn and Maibelin Sherrill, Stefnie Sherrill, Izabella Sherrill, Thatcher and Josephine Garlow, and Berlin Garlow, as well as great grandchildren, Hildegard, Annaleise, Beatrix, and Conrad. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other friends and family.

Royce wants to send a special thank you to his daughters, Ashley and Heidi, as well as Leanne of Cohesive Health Care of Shawnee Oklahoma for their care and support during this difficult time.
