THE SECRET                                                                                                 THE FAVORED PLACE
I met God in the morning                                                                              On the bosom of the Father,
When my day was at its best                                                                         Closest to the heart of love,
And His presence came like sunrise—                                                         Rests the head of our dear Saviour
Like a glory in my breast.                                                                               In that favored place above
All day long His Presence lingered,                                                              We as sinners saved by grace
All day long He stayed with me;                                                                   Are moved into that wonderous place.
And we sailed in perfect calmness                                                              Not by works that we have done
O’er a very troubled sea.                                                                               But by the grace of God’s own Son.
Other ships were blown and battered.                                                       When He took upon Himself our sins
Other ships were sore distressed,                                                               And died upon the tree,
But the winds that seemed to drive them                                                 He gave to us His righteousness
Brought to us a peace and rest.                                                                   And this favored place to you and me.
Then I thought of other mornings,                                                             Then let us accept this wondrous Gift
With a keen remorse of mind,                                                                     And not insult the Saviour’s love.
When I too had loosed the moorings,                                                        But rest our hearts on the bosom
With His Presence left behind.                                                                     Of our Father’s heart of love.
Now I think I know the secret,                                                                     When we accept this Gift by faith,
Learned from many a troubled way                                                            He moves us into this favored place.
You must seek Him in the morning                                                             What a joy to rest in Him
If you want Him through the day!                                                               And be free from all our sins.
