Lorita Kay Gilbert

Lorita “Kay” Gilbert, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was 76 years old.

Born on November 5, 1948, to Richard Clayton and Nancy Bell Landrum, Kay’s life was one filled with deep love, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family. Though her education was interrupted by early motherhood, her thirst for knowledge never faded. She read her Bible many times through and took joy in learning, reflecting her inner strength and curiosity about the world.

Kay gave birth to five children, including her stillborn son, Leonard Lee Landrum, whom she never forgot and always held in her heart. She is survived by her children: Wytonna Lynn Crider of the home; Don Wayne Troxel and wife Christine of Shawnee; Jason Clayton Gilbert and wife Amy of Dale; and Jamie Dale Gilbert of Shawnee. Her legacy continues through eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A woman of quiet passions, Kay found joy in the simple things—watching Wheel of Fortune from her favorite recliner, often solving puzzles faster than the contestants, or settling into a marathon of classic shows on MeTV as if each episode were brand new. She spent countless hours on the phone with her beloved sisters, laughing and sharing stories, living vicariously through the lives of those she loved so deeply.

Though her health limited her physically, Kay’s spirit remained bright. She loved the occasional trip to the casino, visits from friends and family, the comfort of her cat- blue eyes. Above all, she treasured her family—her children and grandchildren were her world.

Throughout her life, Kay wore many hats with different employers, often juggling multiple jobs to provide for her family. She retired in 2009, from TDK having built a life defined by resilience and grit.

Kay enjoyed the open road, especially long country drives, and took pride in teaching her children how to drive. She cherished her memories and shared them freely, weaving her life stories into the hearts of those around her.

She experienced love in many forms throughout her life. She was previously married to Harold Dwayne Troxel and Gary Wayne Gilbert, and later shared over 25 years of companionship and love with Roy Oliver “Jim” Buckmaster, who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, spouses, and son Lenoard, Kay is preceded in death by her grandsons Bobby Joe Crider and Ethan Scott Troxel, and her niece Bridget Cheri Harvey.

She is survived by her devoted siblings: Wanda Mae Krueger of Shawnee; Deloris June Goodnight of Wister; Cherita Ann Landry and husband Kenneth of Shawnee; and Rickey Leon Landrum and wife Susan of Shawnee. Her family—through blood, marriage, and love—will carry her memory forward with honor.

Kay's life was marked by quiet strength, enduring love, and a deep connection to the people she cherished. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
