Lisa Joneson, 67, from Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on June 20, 2023. Lisa was born on May 15, 1956, to Emory and Lorell Timmins in Plainview, Texas. After graduating from Longview High School in 1974, she attended East Central University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
She met her future husband in Arlington, Texas, in 1980 and later married Richard Joneson at the Loroetto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the day after winning a Stake race at Sunland Park in El Paso, Texas.
Lisa had a deep love for animals and became a very accomplished horse woman. She raced horses across the U.S. and won Stake races from Florida to California. Her leading runner was Roto Rooster who won twelve races and $258,728. Her combined runners won nearly one million dollars. She was very involved in the breeding and the development of her horses. She cared for her horses’ well-being most of all.
She was a fierce Christian woman, great cook, decorator, and helped landscape and oversee Joneson Ranch. After attending a Newsboys, Christian band, concert, she was inspired to sponsor a young girl in Africa.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Richard Joneson; sister, Rebecca Bair; and brother, Tim Timmins; along with several nieces and nephews.
