Lela Dale Hindman of Shawnee, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home April 11, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 3, 1939, to Wilbur Taylor and Genevieve (Mason) Taylor.
She married Jimmy Hindman on March 20, 1993. She was blessed with two daughters, Sondra and Susan and one son, Billy. She passed her love for chocolate to her children. Her family especially loved her fried chicken, chocolate chip cookies and fudge. Her life was centered around God and her family. As her children stated, “We just got the best guardian angel!” She also worked as a waitress. Her hobbies were leatherworking and writing poetry and songs.
Dale loved her Savior, lived by the Bible and was a faithful servant. She showed unconditional love to everyone. She attended Living Love Christian Center where she taught Sunday school and VBS because she loved teaching children about God. She also loved singing in the choir and being with her church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; parents, Wilbur and Genevieve; sister, Jackie; great- granddaughter, Mercedes Ellis and great-grandson, Austin Blackard.
Lela is survived by: daughter, Sondra Dodgen and husband, Chuck, of Ben Wheeler, TX; daughter, Susan McGuire and husband, Sean, of Enumclaw, WA; son, Billy Shultz and wife, Cathey, of Carney, OK; grandchildren: Melissa Sanders, Christal Blackard, Nichole Edwards, Holly Lagrone and Ryan Dodgen; 11 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Wright and husband, Mark; brother, Paul Taylor and wife, Sonja; brother, Timothy Taylor and wife, Sandra; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Living Love Christian Center, 1000 N. Kennedy Ave., Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
Interment to follow at Little Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma.
