Janice Sue Hutson passed peacefully from this life into the next on April 4, 2026, surrounded by her family. Janice was born in Shawnee on August 15, 1938, to Walter “Estell” and Cordie Marie Brown. She attended Shawnee High School and Oklahoma Baptist University. Janice met Wendell Hutson, a young Air Force airman, at the Rocket Skating Rink in Oklahoma City, and they were married on June 1, 1962. Janice and Wendell had two children, Warren and Jennifer. Janice was a stay-at-home mom and was very active with her children’s schools and extracurricular activities both in Midwest City and later in Bethel Acres. Janice was a long-time member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church.
Janice never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She loved to sew and craft and was a long-time member of Oklahoma Extension Homemakers. She enjoyed working at the county fair and won many awards for her crafting prowess at both the county and state levels. Many of her award-winning items were lovingly gifted to her children and grandchildren. Janice loved spending time with her grandchildren, from road trips to crafting to being in attendance at any and all of their school activities. Janice also loved spending time in her vegetable garden and flower garden, and with her pet chickens and guineas.
Janice is survived by her husband Wendell; her son Warren Hutson and his wife Sheila; her son-in-law James Duncan; her granddaughter Jane Valentine and her husband Carl; her grandson Jacob Hutson and his wife Catherine; her granddaughter Jacie Frederick and her husband Kyle; her granddaughter Anastasia Duncan; her granddaughter Aurora Naff and her husband Harrison; and her three great-grandchildren: Nero, Sarai and Tali Hutson.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jennifer Duncan and her granddaughter Ariel Duncan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name.
