Henry Steven Hand

Henry was born on August 25, 1953, in Mesa, Arizona, to Herbert Miles Hand and Opal Florence (Orr) Hand.

After graduating from Stroud High School in 1972, Henry married Janell Kinnamon, and together they welcomed one daughter, Annie.

Henry worked as a butcher by trade; a profession he took great pride in and was well known for. He spent most of his working years at Kinnamon’s Grocery Store, where he worked alongside beloved family and friends. Known for his skill, precision, and dedication, many considered him the best at what he did. His work ethic and consistency defined much of his life, and he retired in 2020 after many years of faithful work.

Henry was a quiet man who lived life on his own terms. He didn’t seek attention or accolades, but when he let you in, you knew you were his—and that loyalty ran deep. He was content with a simple life, finding comfort in routine, familiarity, and the things that mattered most to him.

He was fiercely loyal to his people, his work, and his beloved Oklahoma Sooners. Fall Saturdays, crimson and cream, and unwavering devotion to OU football were among his greatest joys.

Above all, Henry loved his family. He is survived by his daughter, Annie Couger; his son-in-law, Tyrel Couger; Annie’s mother, Janell Kinnamon; his brother, Jim Hand; his sister, Ruth Simon; and his grandson, Wyatt Whitfield.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Opal Hand, and his sisters, Patricia Hand-Quinn and Judy Pittman.

In keeping with Henry’s private nature, he will be honored through a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Henry’s memory to Oklahoma Christian School, a place deeply loved by his grandson, Wyatt, and one Henry would have been proud to support.

Henry will be remembered for being genuine, dependable, quietly funny, and unapologetically himself. His legacy lives on in the quiet strength, honesty, and steadiness he passed down to those who loved him. He is now at peace.
