Helen Elfving

Helen Mitchell Elfving, 100 years old and longtime resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior on December 28, 2023, after living a long, healthy life.

Helen was born on September 12, 1923, to George and Myrtle Mitchell in Kingston, Oklahoma. After graduating from Kingston High School in 1941, Helen attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma, during the fall semester of 1941. After the United States joined World War II, her focus shifted from education to employment in support of the war effort.

After the war, Helen went on to hold several administrative positions; the most notable was at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, aircraft engineer, Urho Elfving. Urho, nicknamed “Moose” for his tall stature, swept her off her feet with his charm and dashing Finnish good looks. They were married on September 22, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, after transferring to Boeing’s northwest location. Moose and Helen welcomed one daughter, Jennifer Jo, on February 10, 1963.

After the passing of Urho in 1972, Helen and Jennifer remained in Seattle for several years and ultimately decided to return to Oklahoma to be closer to Helen’s large family.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Mitchell; sisters, Lucille Cowan, Jenell Munger, Sue Morrow; and brothers, Hollis Mitchell, Marvin Mitchell, Ed Mitchell, Joe Mitchell, Bruce Mitchell, Howard Mitchell, and her twin brother, Harold Mitchell.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Elfving Price and husband, Dane Price, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Margaret Claire Price, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and bonus son, Gary Elfving, and wife, Jan, of Tacoma, Washington. Helen is also survived by MANY nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and stayed connected with most of her life.

A memorial service is planned at the Konawa Church of Christ, 14111 Old Hwy. 99, Konawa, Oklahoma 74849, date and time pending, dependent on weather conditions.
