Dorothy Jean Bennett, 88, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed from this life on October 7, 2022. Dorothy was born in Joplin, Missouri, on December 31, 1933, to Jewell Chappell and Donna (Ferrell) Chappell.
Dorothy was first married to Kenneth Crail and they had three daughters together. She later married J.B. (Chief) McBride and they were married until his death in 2003. Much later in life, she was reunited with Jack Bennett at a school reunion and they were married in 2017. Dorothy was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church. She loved gardening, camping, fishing and working jigsaw puzzles. She was an expert quilter and made quilts for everyone. Since Dorothy was a great, adventurous cook, she loved her kitchen tools and appliances and always had to have the latest in kitchen gadgets. She loved her family and practiced what she believed: “you take care of family”.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands: Kenneth, Chief and Jack; parents; 2 brothers, Elmer Chappell of Reding, CA, and Haskell Chappell of Oklahoma City, OK.
Dorothy is survived by 3 daughters: Kenita Lynn, Jenita Willis and husband, Ronnie and Jennifer Sayre and husband, Rex; 8 grandchildren: Christopher Lynn, Angela Scott, Stephanie Alvillar, Shelby Maston, Garrett and Christian Sayre, Jessica Barrow; 14 great grandchildren; brother, James Chappell of Buford, GA; special cousin, Sharon Bradford of Pueblo, CO; lifelong friends, the Cox family; numerous other relatives and friends.
A service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, October 8, 2022, at AE Funeral Services, 603 W. Independence St., Shawnee, OK 74804. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 44909 State Hwy 3, Shawnee, OK 74801.
