Dolores Jean Denson

Dolores Jean Newell Denson was born June 11, 1931, to Joe Hughey and Elizabeth Newell, in Seminole, Oklahoma. She attended high school in Seminole, graduating in 1949. After high school, Dolores worked in several office jobs, including as an operator for the telephone company.

Dolores married Bill Denson in 1950, and they had four children in fewer than six years: Richard (Deborah Hellyer), Debra (Gary Hvass), DeeAnn Mazyck, and Denise Koch (Marty McKinley). Bill and Dolores spent nearly 60 years together, and were blessed with 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, with a twentieth to arrive in May.

One of Dolores’s gifts to her family was the caregiving she offered to older family members, in addition to the generous time she enjoyed with her grandchildren.

Times with family around a table laden with beautiful and healthy home-cooked foods were the context for decades of family memories, with Dolores at the center of the planning and preparation. Throughout her life, she remained young at heart and interested in conversing with people of all ages.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at AE Funeral Services Chapel, 603 W. Independence St., Shawnee, Oklahoma, 74804.  Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, 5001 E. Highland, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
