Cynthia René Carpenter, age 70, of Newalla, Oklahoma, passed on January 3, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
Cindy was born April 17, 1955, to Gene and Charolette Mixon in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Harrah High School in 1973. She went on to study business at Southwest Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
She worked at Tinker Air Force Base for some time, but then decided to stay home with her daughter, Erin, and manage her own in-home childcare. Later she went back to work in administration with various medical groups until her health forced her to retire. Cindy courageously battled a host of serious medical conditions throughout her life. Her family and friends take great comfort knowing she is no longer in pain.
Cindy met her husband, John Carpenter, at a young age. They attended Harrah schools together. They both attended Newalla Church of Christ, and from there, developed a relationship largely orchestrated by Erin. When she was just 4-5 years old, Erin asked John to come to their house after church and play his guitar. John came over every Sunday and Cindy and Erin fell in love with him. John and Cindy married July 1, 1988. They never left each other’s side. They were the perfect match, with a relationship grounded in a deep commitment to their faith in Jesus Christ.
Cindy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved Branson and going to music shows. She loved church and Sundays. Cindy enjoyed playing guitar and got to play at both Kylie and RK’s grade school programs. In her younger years, she loved anything outside – camping, boating, gardening, and taking walks. She loved cooking and was an accomplished baker – a skill and passion she passed on to both Erin and Kylie. She loved painting with her mom and sister, Gina. Perhaps above all, Cindy was the best caregiver. Family and friends were cherished by Cindy. She loved spending time with John, Gina, Erin, Kylie, RK, Papa Phil, and her great grandchildren, and countless other family and friends.
Cindy was predeceased by her father Gene Mixon, mother Charolette Mixon, and grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She is survived by husband, John Carpenter; sister, Regina Sanders and husband Jim Sanders; daughter, Erin Hunsinger and husband Rodney Hunsinger; granddaughter, Kylie Buckmaster and husband Aaron Buckmaster; grandson, RK Hunsinger and great grandchildren, Kayson & Maliyah Buckmaster. Cindy’s infectious smile and sweet, loving demeanor will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, 2:00 p.m., at Choctaw Church of Christ, 14998 E. Reno Ave., Choctaw, Oklahoma 73020.
