Bruce Edward Parker of Del City, Oklahoma, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 67.
Bruce was born on November 10, 1957, to Burton and Annette Parker in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Del City High School in 1976 and took classes at Rose State College. Bruce had a storied career at Southwestern Bell Telecommunications starting in the accounting department, working on the switchboard, and by the time he had retired, Bruce was in charge of the parts and equipment yard. Bruce spent countless hours at the Del City Church of Christ perfecting the landscaping and was instrumental in establishing the community garden. The garden was used to grow many different vegetables, beautiful flowers, and a peaceful prayer garden, where trees grow to commemorate those who have gone before us. He lovingly took care of those grounds where people came to pray, family events were held, and countless hundreds received vegetables from the garden. His backyard was an oasis in an urban jungle. You could often find Bruce roaming the grounds of the Del City Church of Christ in his overalls and hat.
Bruce met the love of his life in 1984, when Genie started cutting his hair. They later started dating in 1986 and were married in 1987. They had two sons, Jake, born in 1990, and Tyler, born in 1992.
Bruce loved gardening, camping, taking road trips around Oklahoma, playing pool, beating his brother at foosball, and throwing horseshoes. More than anything, he loved his wife, Genie, his children, Jake and Tyler, his grandchildren, and his family. Bruce was a deep thinker, with a deep faith in God. He loved helping others, teaching life skills, and making the best chocolate chip cookies.
Bruce was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Parker, and sister-in-law, Emma Parker. He is survived by his wife, Genie; sons, Jake and Tyler, and Rachael Sode. He is also survived by grandkids: Kalahm, Gunner, Trip, Scarlet, and Aurora; father, Burton Parker; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Marti Clark; siblings: Terry and Dee Parker, Gary Parker, and Kyle Parker; brothers-in-law: Robert and Chris and wife, Carol; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a friend to all.
In lieu of flowers, the Parker family would like donations to be made to the Del City garden program.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, 1:30 p.m., at the Del City Church of Christ, 1901 Vickie Dr., Del City, Oklahoma 73115.
