Bobby Joe McNew

Bobby Joe McNew, 82, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on September 22, 2024. He was born on January 16, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to William Ottie and Edith Lanell (Gilkinson) McNew.

Bob graduated from Bethel High School in 1960. While in high school, he met Jeraleen Henson, and they wed in October of 1960. They were blessed with three children, Robbie, Sherri, and Jeff.

After graduating from high school, Bob landed his first job as a butcher and worked for various grocery stores during his career of over 50 years. Most of those years were spent at Pratt Foods in Shawnee as head butcher.

After retiring in 2017, Bob spent his time being a full-time caregiver to his wife. He also volunteered his butchering skills by working in local processing plants and volunteered his time with local FFA chapters. His true love was spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. There was always a house full of kids who considered him Dad and Papa.

Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Jeraleen McNew; his parents, Bill and Lanell McNew; brother, Tim McNew; sister, Nancy Sullivan; and great granddaughter, Camryn Owings.

Bob is survived by his children: Robbie Fitzgerald and husband, Bill, of Bethel Acres, OK, Sherri Barton of San Antonio, TX, Jeff McNew of Shawnee, OK, and Sherry McNew of Tecumseh, OK; grandchildren: Josh and Mandie Owings, Jarrod and Jacque Owings, Wes Fitzgerald and Amanda Stone, Kari and Daniel Hill, Garret and Riley Fitzgerald, Clint Fitzgerald and Darien, Tyler and Stephanie Johnston, Ryan Johnston, Keith Barton, Shaun Barton, Ethan Barton, Tyrenia Rogers, Skottie McNew, and many great grandchildren; and many other loved ones and a host of friends.

A “Come and Go” celebration for Bob will be announced soon.
