Bobby Joe Maxwell

Well done good and faithful servant!

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Joe Maxwell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Bobby was born on December 30, 1939, at home in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, and he departed this life in the comfort of his own home in Harrah, Oklahoma, on November 17, 2025, at the age of 85 years old surrounded by his family. His life was filled with love, lessons, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

Bobby was the cherished son of Lonnie Edward Maxwell and Artie Anne Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his brother Roy Dean Maxwell, his father Lonnie, and his sister Aline Maxwell, as well as his mother Artie. He is survived by his loving wife, Ceola Eileen Maxwell, of the home, to whom he was married for just shy of 61 wonderful years, having united in marriage on November 27, 1964, at Capitol Hill Church of the Nazarene. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, creating a beautiful family that Bobby adored.

Bobby is also survived by his three sons: Gunnar Maxwell, of Lee's Summit, MO ; Paul Maxwell and wife, Andrea of Harrah, OK ; Joe Maxwell and wife, Angela of Harrah, OK. He took great pride in his role as a father and reveled in the joy brought by his grandchildren—Garran, Brendan, Bailey, Gerrad, Lauren, Morgan, Nathan, Lainey, and Jude — each a shining light in his life. Additionally, he was a proud great-grandfather to Colton, Lyric, and Walker, whose giggles and smiles brought him immeasurable joy. Bobby is also survived by sisters Kathleen Parks, Evyleen Lemmings, Dorothy Starring, brothers, Loyd Maxwell, J.L. Maxwell and Edward Maxwell. Bobby is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graduate of Bowlegs High School in 1958, Bobby furthered his education at Oklahoma State University School of Engineering, graduating in 1960. His professional life was dedicated to public service as he worked with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation from 1961 to 1990, a career that reflected his commitment to his community and his desire to make a difference.

Bobby was a faithful and active member of the Choctaw Church of the Nazarene, where he served as an original charter member and elder since 1980. His contributions to the church included teaching Sunday school, tirelessly working on the bus ministry, and serving many years as a board member. Bobby’s faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he made it his mission to share the love of Christ with everyone he encountered, embodying the spirit of kindness and compassion.

Despite facing significant challenges as a child who suffered from polio, Bobby was known for his tough spirit and unyielding determination. His ability to love people "to a fault" and his unwavering dedication to witnessing the goodness of life inspired many. He cherished watching OU football games with his sons, enjoyed fishing, and spent countless hours nurturing his gardens, which were a testament to his love for nature and beauty.

Bobby's legacy is one of resilience, love, and dedication to family and faith. His funeral service will be held at the Choctaw Church of the Nazarene, 1100 Harper St. Choctaw, OK, on November 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM. In this time of grief, we extend our deepest gratitude to the SSM Health at Home hospice professionals for their gentle care and attention during his last days. Thank you also to all for your prayers during this difficult time, including those who have provided meals for us.

Bobby Joe Maxwell will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave to others. Bobby may your fishing lines be always tight and your garden in full bloom. BOOMER SOONER!
